March 3, 2006, Newsletter Issue #6: When Pumps Don't Pump

Tip of the Week

Something breaks in the technology world and our thought is to immediately replace it, however, sometimes other elements could be the actual culprit—the same is true with pools.

More advice when using swimming pool pumps: If you discover the pool pump is working fine, but no water is pumping you might have to play detective. Try the following methods to get to the root of the problem:

• Check is the water level—if it seems to be low add more water
• Check for problems with other parts like the filter
• Check for pump leaks

In most cases the problem can be resolved with an easy fix rather than replacing the pump. Before you start tinkering and shutting everything down, however, consult a pool professional.
